Digital Storytelling
Defining Digital Storytelling - sharing stories through words, pictures, video and audio

Students read out loud their own script - great reading learning tool
Have students write the script and have it graded before the digital story is started
Learning to create and interpret visual messages is very important
Interactive - stop the story and guess what happens next, alternative endings with option buttons, have students present their story to enhance presentation skills, global audience - post them
Premier night - have popcorn and invite parents. make a classroom dvd
Steps
1. Start w/ a good story
2. Write an outline/ script
3. Storyboard
4. Brainstorm visual ideas, music (circle keywords and think of ways to illustrate)
5. Find visuals, shoot
Story Web - write down random thoughts/memories about the topic on blank piece of paper
Circle the main ideas
Create a flow chart from the ideas
Then sequence page - fold blank piece of paper, choose thoughts and put them in order
Storyboarding - index cards work well
Shot #, picture, words the order can be laid out and adjusted
Then sort these by location, graphics need, maps, etc.

Social Technology & Digital Citizenship

Many companies still restrict use for those under 13, but it is no longer law. Check license agreements.
Schools must have computer restrictions in order to receive funds. However, there is not a minimal level of restrictions.
Schools with federal funding must be "education minors about appropriate online behavior" <-- this is LAW! This needs to be part of the curriculum.
Terms of Service (TOS) - contracts not laws
Filters should not inhibit access to ideas.
Have students look at the top Liked causes on Facebook and research platforms to see if they really agree with the cause.

TL Summit Part 2
All programs are irregular, partial, hit or miss
Few if any are comprehensive (all students) predictable (grade to grade/school to school),
Accountable (measured & reported)
TL can't personally teach info literacy to every student, they need to make sure that have the opportunities to learn. TL role is of teaching AND planning, managing and coaching. The balance and role depends on the context and situation.
LIT = Library, Information & Technology program
Big 6 by the month (incorporate 6+1???)
Sacred Cows
Collaboration --> becomes cooperation & coordination
Flexible Schedule --> fixed & flexible
Plagiarism --> create a culture of citing (everybody cites all the time) - classroom teachers cite sources too
Collection development --> common core collection (75-85%) district, region, state...
Wikipedia is bad --> good place to start
Books!!!--> I'm a techie!!! (and I like books!)
Reading & Writing --> Process & Produce
Tired of a lesson? Find a game. (The future of education is a game).
